Washington State has an endless number of opportunities for people who enjoy communing with nature. From the majestic mountains to the luxurious meadows, this is truly a place of beauty. If you are traveling near Spokane this spring and are looking for the perfect spot to commune with nature, here are a few places for you and your family to investigate.

Manito Park

located in Spokane’s South Hill neighborhood is home to five gardens, a conservatory, a duck pond, and 90-acres of spacious, manicured lawns. There are also a number of playgrounds, biking and walking paths, a greenhouse conservatory and a topiary shrub garden. The location receives over 150,000 visitors each year who come to take advantage of the landscaping and picnic in the park.

The John A. Finch Arboretum

Situated between two busy highways, this arboretum is a quiet spot for locals and guests to remove themselves from the hustle and bustle of city life. This park’s 56-acres is home to over 600 species of trees and shrubbery. This history of the park goes back to the Native Americans who camped here in the 1800s because of its proximity to a water source and the Spokane Falls. Members of the Finch family purchased the land with the hopes of building a summer home but later sold parts of it to the city to develop.

Riverfront Park

This location is not to be missed if you are traveling with children in your party. The park includes beautiful landscaping, an old-time carousel in the middle of the park, a Skyride over the falls, an annual Chines Lantern Festival, a beautiful Christmas light display in the winter, a ton of trees and green space, and is close proximity to unique shops as well as a Starbucks.

Mirabeau Point Park

This family-friendly spot offers a slice of nature right in the middle of the Spokane Valley. There are covered picnic spots, a beautiful meadow and lots of recreational activities to be had in this nature area. If you are looking for a good spot to bike or walk, the paved Centennial Trail runs through the park. The locations is also home to a beautiful waterfall and has access to the river for any number of aquatic activities.
