The Panda Inn: China
If you are a fan of Panda’s, then this is the perfect hotel for you. Located at the foot of Emei Mountain in the southwestern corner of China’s Sichuan province, the Panda Inn offers an extreme panda-themed experience. Upon arriving at the hotel, guests are greeted by staff members who wander halls dressed in panda costumes. The 32-room hotel features panda art, furniture, slippers, pajamas, and other items that are designed to look like pandas. Least you think the theme of the Inn to be a bit odd, it is actually located less than 100 miles from the Giant Panda Sanctuary and two hours from the Chengdu Research base, which is home to the most captive-born pandas in the world.
Mont-Saint-Michel: France
This Island was a notorious prison during the French Revolution. It was particularly effective as a place to hold prisoners because of its demarcation as a tidal island. When the tide comes in, the location is completely surrounded by water. However, when the tide rolls out, it is surrounded by land. This unique occurrence made it an ideal location for housing prisoners as it effectively kept them separate from the rest of the population. Today, the 11th-century abbey is a favorite location for fine dining for visitors who arrive by choice, rather than by sentence.
Alberobello: Italy
This small town located in Bari, Apulia, in Southern Italy has a little over 10,000 residents and is known for its unique Trulli buildings. These buildings, which by all accounts have been around since the 16th century, were built with dry stone and no mortar. The reasoning for the buildings unique design of whitewashed and un-mortared stone roofs is said to have been created in this manner to evade taxes. Some of the roofs include unique symbols that are rumored to be Pagan in origin, though no one can say for certain what they are meant to represent.
